An unknown WhatsApp number. A stranger’s profile picture. Selfies from a new contact. Before you reply again.
Who’s behind that WhatsApp photo?
Screenshot their profile picture or a photo they sent. We search public pages for the same face and show where it appears, and under which names.

When a WhatsApp photo is worth checking
A number you don’t know
They know your name, or say a friend gave them your number.
Too good a profile picture
A model-quality photo on an account that only messages, never calls.
A group that wants money
A “mentor” in an investment or job group sends selfies to look real.
How to check a WhatsApp contact from their photo
WhatsApp shows a name and a picture the sender chose. Neither is checked, so the photo is the one thing you can test.
How do I get a photo to search?
- Open the chat and tap their name at the top to see their contact info.
- Tap the profile picture to view it full size, then take a screenshot.
- Or save a photo they sent you in the chat to your phone.
- Crop the screenshot so one face fills most of it.
Why a normal reverse image search often finds nothing
Google Lens and TinEye look for copies of the same picture. Scammers crop, flip or filter stolen photos, or pick ones that aren’t widely posted, so exact-copy search comes back empty. A face search looks for the same face in different photos, which is how a stolen identity usually shows up.
What the matches can tell you
- The same face under a different name: the photos are almost certainly borrowed.
- A model’s, influencer’s or stock photo page: the picture was taken from there.
- A scam-warning page or forum post: others have seen this face used before.
- Their own profiles under the name they gave you: a good sign, but keep checking.
- Nothing at all: not proof either way, since many real people have no public photos.
What to do if the photo isn’t theirs
- Stop replying, and don’t send money, codes or documents.
- Open their contact info and use Block, then Report, in WhatsApp.
- If you paid anything, call your bank or card issuer right away.
- Report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov, or ic3.gov if money was lost online.
Three taps. About thirty seconds.

Questions
Can I see who owns a WhatsApp number?
Not from the number itself. A face search can show whether their profile picture belongs to someone else, which is often the quickest warning sign.
Their profile picture is hidden. What can I search?
WhatsApp lets people hide their picture from numbers not in their contacts. Search a photo they sent in the chat instead, if it shows a face clearly.
Will they know I searched their photo?
No. We don’t contact anyone, and only the crop around the face is sent to run the search.
How does it work?
You upload a photo, and we search publicly available web pages for the same face. Your first preview is free and shows how many matches there are, the closest faces and which sites they’re on. After that, each search costs one search and shows every match with its link.
What does it cost?
Your first preview is free. Then it’s $4.99 per search, 3 searches for $9.99, or 10 for $19.99. One-time payments, no subscription. If a search finds no matches, we refund what it cost, automatically. If it can’t run (no clear face), the search goes back on your account.
How accurate are the results?
Each match shows a similarity score. A high score means a very similar face, not a confirmed identity, so always verify before you act.
Do you store my photo?
Your full photo never leaves your device: only a crop around the face is sent, securely, to our search partner. We keep that crop with your private results so you can see which face was searched, and delete both after 48 hours.
Other things you can check.
