When a romance starts to feel off
Fast, intense feelings
They say they love you within days, but only ever want to chat by text.
A sudden money request
A hospital bill, a frozen account or a plane ticket, always urgent.
No video call, ever
Every call gets cancelled, with a new reason each time.
How a romance scam usually runs
Romance scams follow a script, and knowing it helps you spot where yours is heading. None of this is your fault: these scams are built by people who do it for a living.
What are the signs of a romance scam?
- Their photos look polished, and the profile has few friends or posts.
- They move the chat off the app to WhatsApp, Telegram or email quickly.
- They say they love you long before you have met.
- They always have a reason not to video call or meet.
- Their story has an emergency, and you are the only one who can fix it.
How do scammers ask for money?
It rarely starts with a request. First comes weeks of warmth, then a crisis: medical bills, customs fees, a business deal, a crypto “opportunity”. They often ask for gift cards, wire transfers or crypto because those are hard to reverse.
How do I check if their photos are stolen?
- Save a clear, front-facing photo of their face from the profile.
- Upload it here and look at the free preview count.
- Open the matches and check whether the same face appears under different names, jobs or countries.
- Treat a match as a lead, not proof, and compare the details yourself.
What if I already sent money?
- Stop sending money, even if they threaten or plead.
- Contact your bank or payment app right away and ask about reversing the transfer.
- Report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI’s IC3 at ic3.gov.
- Report the profile to the platform where you met.
- Keep the messages and payment receipts as evidence.

Questions
What if the search finds nothing?
That doesn’t mean the person is real. Photos can be new, edited or only on private accounts. You get a free search back, and the red flags above still count.
Can I search inside Tinder, Hinge or Bumble?
No. We only search public web pages, and those apps aren’t publicly indexed. Use a photo from their profile and search the open web.
What if they have never asked for money?
Many scams wait weeks. If other signs fit, such as no video calls and a very fast bond, checking the photo now costs you little.
How does it work?
You upload a photo, and we search publicly available web pages for the same face. Your first preview is free and shows how many matches there are. After that, each search costs one search and shows every match with its link.
What does it cost?
Your first preview is free. Then it’s $4.99 per search, 3 searches for $9.99, or 10 for $19.99. One-time payments, no subscription. If a search finds nothing (no matches, or no clear face), you get a free search back on your account.
How accurate are the results?
Each match shows a similarity score. A high score means a very similar face, not a confirmed identity, so always verify before you act.
Do you store my photo?
Your full photo never leaves your device: only a crop around the face is sent, securely, to our search partner. We keep that crop with your private results so you can see which face was searched, and delete both after 48 hours.
