How the sugar daddy scam starts

How sugar daddy scams work

A sugar daddy scam promises money and always ends with you paying first. The “sugar daddy” is usually a scammer behind someone else’s photos, contacting many people at once on Instagram, X, Snapchat, Grindr and texts.

Signs of a fake sugar daddy

  • He finds you first, with a generous offer and no questions about you.
  • He asks for your bank login, card details or Cash App or PayPal account before paying.
  • The first payment needs a “fee”, a “verification” or a gift card to clear.
  • He sends a payment screenshot or email instead of money you can actually spend.
  • He asks you to buy Google Play, Apple or Steam cards to “prove you’re loyal”.
  • He refuses a video call, and his photos look like a catalogue of cars, watches and jets.

Why the money he sends disappears

Some scammers send real money taken from a stolen card or account, then ask you to forward part of it. When the bank reverses the original payment, you owe what you sent on. Others send fake “pending payment” emails that look like PayPal or Cash App. Real payment apps never ask you to pay a fee to receive money.

How to check who you’re talking to

  1. Save the clearest photo from his profile or chat.
  2. Search it here and read the free preview count.
  3. Open each match: the same face under another name, on a businessman’s or influencer’s page, means the photos are stolen.
  4. Ask for a live video call. A scammer will find a reason not to.
  5. Never share login codes, bank logins or card numbers, whatever he promises.

What to do if you’ve sent money or details

  1. Stop sending money or gift cards, and don’t move any money he sent you.
  2. Call your bank or payment app now and explain what happened; change any password you shared.
  3. If you bought gift cards, contact the card’s company right away with the receipt.
  4. Keep the chats, usernames and payment details, then report the account on the app.
  5. Report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov and ic3.gov.

Questions

Do real sugar daddies ask you to pay first?

No. Anyone who asks you to pay a fee, buy a gift card or “verify” your account before they send money is running a scam.

Can a photo search prove he’s a scammer?

It shows whether his photos appear elsewhere. The same face under a different name is a strong warning sign. A match is a similar face, not proof, and no matches doesn’t prove he’s real.

He sent me money first. Why is that a problem?

Money from a stranger can be reversed days later, or come from someone else’s stolen account. If you forward any of it, you can lose that amount and get pulled into fraud. Talk to your bank before touching it.

How does it work?

You upload a photo, and we search publicly available web pages for the same face. Your first preview is free and shows how many matches there are, the closest faces and which sites they’re on. After that, each search costs one search and shows every match with its link.

What does it cost?

Your first preview is free. Then it’s $4.99 per search, 3 searches for $9.99, or 10 for $19.99. One-time payments, no subscription. If a search finds no matches, we refund what it cost, automatically. If it can’t run (no clear face), the search goes back on your account.

How accurate are the results?

Each match shows a similarity score. A high score means a very similar face, not a confirmed identity, so always verify before you act.

Do you store my photo?

Your full photo never leaves your device: only a crop around the face is sent, securely, to our search partner. We keep that crop with your private results so you can see which face was searched, and delete both after 48 hours.
